Unable to create alert rule

Why would one user be able to create an alert rule on a page while another user cannot? I don't see any indication that this is a right's/permissions/role issue: Create alert rules - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

The user is trying to create an alert rule for changes to open purchase order lines for a specific item number.

All drop-downs and fields are greyed out.

I have the same question (0)

The user could have different security, it could be they are not allowed to create alerts

    Thanks Steve,

What's the best way of assigning this privilege to the user? My knowledge extends as far as managing User Roles.

Also, where can I uncover that menu/page you've screenshot?

    Hi,

The system user role has this privilege included. Unless there is any deny permission, it should be possible for the user to create alert rules. Can you check if there are changes on the standard System user role or maybe another role might have deny permissions for updating the form or the underlying table?

    Hi Andre,

I'm not aware of any deny permission. I only have the following default roles applied:

    • Employee
    • Engineering change request clerk
    • Machine operator
    • Maintenance clerk
    • Manager
    • Manufacturing execution workload shop supervisor
    • Material handling manager
    • Materials manager
    • Process engineer
    • Process engineering manager
    • Product designer
    • Product engineer
    • Production manager
    • Production planner
    • Production supervisor
    • Quality control clerk
    • Quality control manager
    • Receiving clerk
    • Sales clerk
    • Shipping clerk
    • System user
    • Office integration power user
    • Power Automate administrator
    • Warehouse mobile device user
    • Warehouse planner
    Warehouse worker

I removed all roles from user, saved, then re-added them back and had user sign-out of Dynamics, clear browser data, then log back in with no success.

Hi, As Andre mentioned, system user role has privileges to create alert rules. I tried assigning only System user role and able to create alert rule. Can you verify if the user can create alert rule in Common-->Work items-->Work items assigned to me (as below)

I can confirm the user is able to create alerts on this page.

To clarify, the user can (now) create alerts, but is unable to specify the parameters of a custom alert on the Open purchase order lines as shown below. Is this further related to privileges/roles? If so, how can I find out which is the correct role to apply to the user? Thank you.

You can find it at System Administration >> Security >> Security Configuration.

Then select privileges and I filtered on it to then show the duties.

Does the user have full rights to the purchase lines? A security restriction here could apply. You need access to the trigger points to create an alert, if you dont you cannot create the alert.

What you could do is create an alert for this from an admin user and send it to the Power Platform to then email the user, a pain, but if they dont have the security to do it, they cannot do what they are trying to do.

I abandoned efforts to find out how to give this user rights for modifying the alert rule based on Purchase Order line parameters. Our requirement should be satisfied with the Quality Management aspects of F&O since the objective here is to be notified of an incoming shipment with items previously flagged for quality-related issues.
