AX 2012 with EDI Fedex/UPS full integration

Hi we need to integrate shipping (fedex/UP) and EDI with AX so that we don't need to enter shipping/tracking manually. I would presume, this is something not possible out of box. but possibly with add-ons?  We want the automate the order flow --  orders to flow  through EDI, process through ERP system, and be sent back out to EDI with all shipping info included automatically with no manual entry.  Will this be customization?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ideally prefer ERP (AX) to have built in EDI capability but so far as I researched, this is not available out of box but with addon.

We're currently using JDE and ConnectShip, but are in the process of implementing AX, and will be looking for or coding a ConnectShip integration.  Keep in mind that there are two parts to a shipping solution.  The first part is used by Order Entry showing the available shipping services and pricing (including box types), and the second part is used out in the warehouse to actually apply the label and print international customs documents feeding back the tracking numbers used, weights and such into the ERP system.

This guy's blog seems to have the best information on shipping in AX

The references to find functionality in this area are: "carrier" and "shipping"

but I can't find a AX to ConnectShip module available (ore even much beyond those links) -- so I'm thinking our VAR (HSO.com) will have to write a solution for us.

    Good luck!

Thanks Tim for the helpful suggestions and thoughts. Much appreciate it.  From what I can see - integrating EDI, shipping with AX is not straight forward without addons and or  customization.

    Hi EWILLS -

Were you able to resolve your EDI/Shipping integration issue? Did you end up custom-writing a solution? My company offers an integrated EDI/Shipping module for AX that may reduce the amount of customization you would have to do. We offer our solution as a module within AX, not a separate software solution that has to be implemented and then integrated to AX.

If you are still exploring possible solutions, I'd be happy to talk more about exactly what you are looking for and show you our solution.

    Best,

    Tony Barnes

EDI is a complex, multi faceted functionality, it is not a surprise it is not built into AX.

Typically it would be much reasonable to integrate with a 3rd party tool (or with one of the existing add-ons) than to try and build a whole EDI solutions.
