Chart/Graph is displaying null or not existing values in the database

Dear,

I am building a chart in dynamics, but the chart is displaying not existing values in the database yet as null (2021 line for example) and plot it in the chart, I would like to know if there is a way to avoid the chart to do it and just leave only one dot with the value that has data for 2021, below the example:

Thank you in advance,

Jose G Diaz

I have the same question (0)

RE: Chart/Graph is displaying null or not existing values in the database

    Hi, Jose

Do you want to achieve the effect of showing only one point of data for January 2021 when there is no data for other months?

I have tried to change the field type of the field ‘Year’ and ‘Month’, such as a custom option set, calculate from the date or extract year and month from date field with workflow.

But unfortunately, the null value cannot be ignored in a chart by the existing screening criteria.

Non-empty should have been a useful filter, but it is only for Count.

For the month itself can be seen as an option set, if the corresponding value is available for the current month in other years, a null value will be automatically populated with years that do not have data for the current month.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best Regards,

    Nya

    Hi Nya,

Thank you for your answer, to answer your questions yes what you mention is what i would like to achieve.

But I don't understand, based on your comments if this is going to be possible and if yes what changes need to be made. Below you have more information about the field and chart definition.

Additionally, I had to create a filter in the view to filter values greater than zero and the same thing happens in the chart. Below a couple of screenshots

RE: Chart/Graph is displaying null or not existing values in the database

    Hi, Jose

    2605.png

The data of the chart is based on the view.

    0878.png

So I tried to add a filter condition that saleamount must contains data.

As you can see in the following picture, the point of the data for each month is an image.

    63002.png

The point of 2021.01 is named as ‘2021 for month 1 has value of $30,000.00’, while the points of the null values are named as ‘Order. Month, 0’. The 0 will be automatically filled in the name of it.

So the only way to achieve the effect which you need is to set the images of these points as invisible, but it is not recommended for this method since the data can change dynamically in real time.

    Best Regards,

    Nya

Chart/Graph is displaying null or not existing values in the database
    Hello Jose,
First I'd like to concur with you by saying we are encountering this problem on many of the charts we created in the classic interface in dynamics (we are now switching to the UI) and it's driving me crazy. Bar charts show bars for null values, line charts plot points for null values and so on. I gather you did not receive any satisfactory solution for this?

But your chart above is closer to a chart that I have tried to create - having more than two lines on a line graph. I'd like to know how you did that if you are willing to share. In this image, the bottom section is what the chart looked like in Classic interface. Not ideal in that the lines are not on top of each other. At the top of the image is what the chart looks like in the Unified Interface. I understand the null values are still going to plot on the graph. But it would be better if the lines are on top of each other, like yours. Make sense? Thanks very much! ~leslie worf
