Management Reporter Reports suddenly stopped working

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello Everyone,

Our Management reporter contains many defined reports but they all seemed to stop working suddenly.

Not sure if this is related but hours earlier we performed "maintenance" on the GP server by running reconcile, check links, etc. Could this have affected the management reporter? Refer to screens below to see exactly what I am trying to do:

So I am backtracking on that, after getting our regular reports user to login and try to generate a report again, I checked the logs and no indication that mgmtreporter is failing. It seems the previous fail I mistook for access denial was because the server was being restarted and mgmtreporter account could not connect.

I have included both a screenshot of the ERP connections as requested, as well as the error log. It seems to be the line items on the report are erroring out, but I do not know enough about GP to know what it means.

I ended up re-adding a GP "Legacy" connector as I figured that must have been what was in place before since we have no data mart and no other options apply to us. It seems to look exactly like the last connector did - all grey with only import and remove buttons (i imported our companies).

The screenshot I provided earlier showing the ManagementReporter DB was from our SQL management studio on the GP instance. We do not have a db with DM at the end... so I'm guessing this means whoever performed the install years ago did not include a datamart.

You only need to reset the password if you don't know the password.  You will be required to enter and use that password when you are reseting the connection with Management Reporter.

You may also need to look at the Services Window and look at the various services related to MR and see if any of them are using the same user ID - if so, you may need to enter the new password there as well.  Not new for that just for that service, but if you reset, often the services need the update as well.

Passwords - if they are changed that will impact everything - when you create the user name for the MR services - make the password non-expiring - make sure it is not a commonly used one as well.

It seems its already set to non-expiring.... should I even bother resetting then?

Once I reset the password I will need to update it for all the applications/services that use the account, where are the places the mgmtreporter account would be saved?

Can you access the Management Report Console - and get a screen shot of those windows - the one from which you are able to 'disable' the DataMart

Sometimes the picture is worth so much more.

In the picture you just posted, it shows me a Management Reporter database - now normally when the DataMart option of integration is selected the other database with a DM on the end is also created.

Actually I just started looking through the logs - not sure why it didn't occur to me before. It seems the mgmtreporter account is failing login, which makes sense now as thats the account used to interact with the DBs. So I am going to try resetting password and sees what happens

I have tried to follow the article but here is where I am confused:

When I tried to disable the ERP integration I couldn't... An integration was listed under ERP integrations but clicking it revealed nothing, no "Disable" button or anything else. I removed the integration anyways since it had no configurable options I figured it was broken and continued with the steps (disabled the MR services). However the next step was to delete the ManagementReporterDM and here is where I'm confused... We don't have a DB with that name. At first I figured whoever performed initial setup just didn't use a default DB name but none of the DB names indicate we have a Management Reporter datamart.

While trying to re-add the connector I double checked by trying to select some of the other not-so-obvious db names but unfortunately I confirmed that none of them are because selecting any of them gives me an error stating I have to pick a correct Management Reporter Datamart db.

Is the datamart installed by default with Management Reporter or as an option?

Richard as soon as I read this I thought Data Mart as well.

    Hope that is correct.
