SQL Error 2147165949 when moving SQL 2000 to SQL 2005

Client is splitting their SQL 2000 SP4 Solomon 6.0 Database from the Solmon Server to a separate SQL 2005 SP3 server (a non default instance and non default port).

When they try to connect with Database Maintenance - they get SQL Error 2147165949 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] To connect to this server you must use SQL Server Management Studio or SQL Server Management Objects (SMO).

Any thoughts on how to resolve?

 thank you in advance.

Make sure "Mixed Mode" (SQL +Windows) authentication is setup on this instance of SQL Server. Also make sure "sa" is enabled in SQL Server, and "Allow Remote Connection" is enabled in SQL configuration. Are you able to connect to the default instance of SQL Server?
