PARENT AND CHILD DATA UPLOAD ISSUE

Hi,

 7065.Accounts.jpg

Please refer to the company structure. Here Arrow Group is Parent and Child account with same name.

A) Able to create company and make the parent relationship from CRM (front end) for same account name - No problem

B) Setting -> Data Management - Imports ->Tried using excel file

1. Parent company (Arrow Group) with other details - Success

2. Child company (Arrow Group) with parent relationship(Arrow Group) with other details - Failed . It's because the parent relationship doesn't know which company to point to (make relationship), whether Child - Arrow Group or Parent - Arrow Group. End up with unsuccessful data load.

Any other work around for solution for this ?

Create a new column in your file. And set a unique value like a number or a guid. And create a field in crm to import this column in it. And instead of using the name of the account to map the records you use this column

    HI SAPK,

While importing the data to CRM system you have to use the templates provided by system. When you do the mapping with display names if often fails because it already has a match to your requirement and the system doesn't know which is the correct record.

In such cases you have to use GUID of the record and use the same column in the data mapping, instead of primary field (name).

Please refer to the screenshot of the three scenarios.

If you can't change the name of one of the Arrow Group companies to a unique name Chadi's suggestion is just about the only solution. However, I really wouldn't recommend it

    1) as this change could break future imports or other things elsewhere

    2) two companies with the exact same name risks opportunities, contacts, cases being recorded against the wrong legal entity.

Personally I would be renaming the top Arrow Group to Arrow Group (Parent) and using the second point above to justify what is a minor change were anyone to ask...

@GVR, Using CRM template only, but data filled manually.

@Ben, I too suggested same as you, but users strongly prefers to have same company name. The legacy system (in-house developed) handle this case.

Silly thought - who is doing the import?

Assuming this is a 1 off import task, you could hack the spreadsheet to reference Arrow Group (Parent) where appropriate and change the parent record back to Arrow Group once the import has ran. I cannot think or see another option...
