connect to Nav SQL server via a remote machine

Hi All,

Is it possible to connect directly to the Navision SQL server (NAV 2015 SQL 2014).

I want to connect from a different machine to the one I'm using for the server.

I can supply more information as you need it.

    In this case there might be a variety of reasons of not being able to connect to SQL server ((. You need first to troubleshoot the issue, e.g. using methods, described here:

    Can you have a look at those and return with more information on results, if this issue still occurs? To my experience, it usually has been a firewall issue.

    Theres no error just unable to find the database, there is a SQL 2012 database running on the same server which i can access fine.

    Permissions/login. Are set correctly

    What is the error that you are facing?

    How abt database authentication and required permissions?

    hi Alex,

    I am currently ok with accessing the SQL server from a different machine via Remote desktop, What i actually require is access to the data in the database on a remote machine.

    I want to pull the database to Visual Studio that is based on a different machine so that i can query the information.

    The pipe all look to be set up correctly but it doesnt seem to be able to access the database. It has no issues connecting to my SQL server 2012 databases hosted else where just the SQL 2014 which Nav is on

    Connecting to a different machine that runs SQL server is of course possible. E.g., you can use RemoteDesktop connection, enter the server name or address, if you are in the same network. If you have a user that has access rights to this server and is a part of remote desktop users group on this server, you should be having access to that. Then, you can operate with SQL Management Studio on that machine.

    If you are working on a distant machine that is not a part of the same network, but just, say, has an Internet connection, you also can access the server with SQL, but such access should be setup and permitted to you in advance. E.g., there can be a VPN tunnel that you establish each time you want to connect to that server. Or, there can be a Terminal server to which you can remotely connect, and then connect to SQL from a Terminal server. Or, in worst case, there can be setup on SQL server that looks directly outside to the Internet, so anyone can have access to that knowing external IP and assigned port (but this configuration is not secure and I doubt you will have this option).

    Also, you can run TeamViewer on the server or on the machine that is a part of the server network, and login to that machine from a remote machine.
