Unable to bulk edit opportunities

Posted on by 35

Hi All,

When we select some records and try to save after using the multiple record edit feature all users (even system administrators) will get the folowing error in an dialog box pop up "An error has occurred. The selected action was not completed for one or more records.". The changes you will make won't be saved. When you edit the selected records one by one there isn't any problem.

I tried the bulk edit feature on multiple entities but this error only shows when bulk editing opportunities, other entities will save without an problem. I also made an workflow changing some fields and triggering this on the same opportunities and this is succeeding also.

Any thoughts on how to tackle this problem?

We use Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 8.1.0.359

    For us, the problem was on the Incident Form. We had to make sure these fields appear on the form, even if they are hidden. As soon as they were on the form, the problem disappeared:

    - kbarticleid

    - subjectid

    - productid

    - contractservicelevelcode

    - productserialnumber

    This is somehow connected to the right pane that appears when you bulk edit cases.

    F.Y.I. We have several opportunities where the estimatedclosedate is still in 2016 but are close to closing. They needed to be moved to the end of this month.

    Hi Jos,

    which field/fields do you want to edit?

    It doesn't make sense to bulk edit fields like estimated revenue or something like this. This is even blocked on the buld edit page. Please give us some more details on which field you want to bulk edit.

    Regards, Karan

    I removed the field 'statecode' from our forms (it was displayed in the header), since it was trying to modify it to NULL (which isn't psossible because the system requires the field to be filled in). Now i'm able to Bulk Edit all opportunities again.

    Hi Nadeeja,

    Good call on checking the Event Viewer, I asked the system administrator to check if any errors/warnings where popping up after executing the action and it did!

    Exception information:

       Exception type: CrmException

       Exception message: Attribute: statecode cannot be set to NULL

      at Microsoft.Crm.Application.Pages.Dialogs.BulkEdit.ConfigureForm()

      at Microsoft.Crm.Application.Controls.AppUIPage.OnPreRender(EventArgs e)

      at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal()

      at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

    So it seems it's trying to set the statecode to NULL when i perform an Bulk Edit. Any idea why this is happening?

    Cheers,

    Jos

    Hi Jos,

    There could be many reasons why this error occurs.  Best thing to do is to check the Event Viewer and also enable tracing and trace logs to see what the actual error is after performing the action again.
