eConnect on Segmented Network?

Posted on by 1,582

I have a question in my inbox about a deployment on a segmented network and I am unfamiliar with today's network architecture in this regard.

Our custom REST API is to be deployed on a web server residing on a segment that is different from that which the GP SQL server resides. Our API leverages eConnect. I am uncertain if this means different domains are involved. In my experience > everything is on one domain > eConnect is installed on the machine the custom app resides > it talks to GP server without issue.

With this deployment I have been asked about the need to open up certain ports to allow communication between the web server and GP server. Can you help me navigate this?

The client is installing eConnect on the web server. Then my colleague is directing their IT to open up a port. Thanks for your contribution.

I have a vague memory of a discussion or blog post about changing eConnect to be called remotely. Is that what you refer to? Can you bring it back into focus for me?

I have reached out to confirm whether the client intends eConnect be installed on the web server.

    Chad,

I assume they just have a firewall between segments of the network to contain any intrusions.

If eConnect is the only communication between your webserver and your GP server, you need whatever port & ipaddress that you are talking to the eConnect end point on (remember you can configure this in the GP service WCF config file) to be opened up.

I expect that would be all?

    Tim.
