Ledger posting on warehouse transfer

Hi,

When I post inventory transfer journal from warehouse 1 to warehouse 2 within the same site,

nothing is posted in general ledger.

When I do the same between warehouses belonging to different sites, then a ledger voucher is posted.

The problem is that warehouses belong to the different cost centers, and I want the financial system to be aware that the cost has been moved from one profit center to another.

Is there a standard way to do that?

Please not that the dimension link is activated between financial dimension 2 and the site

Thanks for your help

The cost is posted between sites because of the item group setup and the ability to hold different standard costs by sites and to alter weighted average etc. This is not possible at the warehouse level, and therefore there will be no financial transaction as standard, so you lost your cost centre by warehouse. Basically yes at site and no at warehouse level.

I've forgotten to mention that at the beginning, only site was considered as a "financial inventory" dimension in the dimension group setup. Then I've created new items linked to a new dimension group where financial inventory was activated at both levels (site and warehouse). The consequence is that average price is calculated at warehouse level, but still there is no ledger posting when I transfer from one warehouse to another within the same site.

    Thanks for your help

And there never will be - costs are only posted at site level, this is part of the system architecture - you can hold costs at warehouse level, but transferring between them in the same site will never create a financial cost difference in the GL based directly on the posting of the transfer.

    Thanks again for your help.

But from a functional point of view, this is difficult to justify.

The point raised by the users is valid: they have different warehouses on the site, that correspond to different profit centers (because different managers, and the need to produce a P&L for each of them). If a warehouse transfers some goods to the another warehouse, we need to track the transfer of inventory value in the books, otherwise it is going to screw up the P&L analysis.

It seems we've found in the code the explicit statement where it says "don't post in GL if warehouses belong to the same site". I'd like to test the results if we skip that condition. I wonder if there is any risk system-wise if we do that change.

      Regards

I am not arguing with you from a functional perspective, I am simply telling you how it works. Of course you could have structured the sites to reflect the cost centres and then you would not have had this issue. At least consulting on the limitations of the system whilst structuring the layout would have helped.

Will there be any risk if you make the change? Asking the question is a worry in itself. Of course there is a risk. You are impacting on average costs, ledger integrations and every costing aspect of the system. Like any modification where costing is involved you need to test this to the nth degree, because if you do not you can guarantee that the fist set of transactions you process will completely screw your database.

Re: Ledger posting on warehouse transfer

From standard system point of view this cannot be done. AX architecture can only post the financial transactions if you different sites in your transfer journal. I have seen most of my clients wants to have ledger posting for transfers between the warehouse and have done the modifcations for them in transfer journal posting. There is not going to be any risk as your net effect will be ZERO you are not changing any cost value what you doing is whatever the cost system is picking to post the transfer journal you are posting the ledger journal for the same.

If you want more info on what modification needs to be done then let me know I will pass on the information to you.

RE: Ledger posting on warehouse transfer

    Hi

I would like more details on modifications required to be done to AX architecture so that GL is affected when a transfer journal is done from 1 warehouse to another (Even within the same site)

    Many thanks for your help

    Kind regards,

    Hi Jag,

Can you please pass the information required to post financial transaction for  item transfer from one warehouse to another in the same site.

    Thanks

    Asif
