Permissions between companies

Hi,

I have a pretty straight forward scenario where I need to set up permissions for different companies. I have one role with the same permissions in all three companies. However, the users of the different companies should only be able to work in their own companies (they should not be able to switch companies).

I have read about the security framework and come up with one solution. Here is what I am planning to do.

1. Set up a domain for each company.
2. Set up three user groups (one for each company).
3. Set up permissions for each group. Activating permissions for the combination user group/domain. Each user group gets permissions to separate domains.
4. Assign the users to the correct user groups.

This will work. However, I find it a bit complex. What if I need to change the permissions, then I have to do the same corrections in all three user groups. And what about adding a new company? I know there are tools to help me (exporting and importing permissions), but still. Is there any way to configure just one group in this case and make the users limited to just one company any other way?

Thank you in advance!

Olof Wallin

    Hi Olof,

    My suggestion:

    • 1. Set the correct permission for only one user group (template). This could be for example for admin domain
    • 2. Export this usergroup which is pretty easy from AX.
    • 3. Then you create the 3 different domains and usergroups for the three companies.
    • 4. Then for each of these domains and usergroups you import the template user group in each domain.
    • 5. Add users to each group.

I agree with you that if you then start changing permissions you have to decide if you shold do this in the individual groups or in the template.

    Hi SI,

thank you for your advices. It could be a good idea to have a template group to export from to make sure all groups has the same configuration.
I guess this is the way to do it. I was thinking that maybe you could assign users to companies directly, and then you wouldn´t need one group for each company. But I seems you cannot do such a configuration in AX.

Hi, To my knowledge this is the best/only way to go. Good luck and like always when doing security in AX. Keep it simple ;). SI
