Can a fixed asset be deleted?

Dears,

Can we delete a fixed asset having a FA journal related to it?

We are stuck with this error message when we try to delete the asset or the Value model for the asset:

"Value model by fixed asset cannot be deleted while dependent Fixed asset transactions exist. Delete dependent Fixed asset transactions and try again."

"Fixed assets cannot be deleted while dependent Fixed asset transactions exist. Delete dependent Fixed asset transactions and try again."

From Value model->transactions we can see the Acquisition Voucher.

Regards,

    Hi Kaled,

You cannot delete FA once transaction are posted.

    Thanks

    Hello,

So what is the best practice to do in this case? what about the Value model and what status should it have?

We should uncheck the depreciation check box, right?

    Many thanks,

    Hi Kaled Alloud,

You have to clarify what to do with the posted acquisition and possibly post an additional correction.

Once that is done you can change the status of your value model - for example to suspended.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Kaled,

If you don't have transactions posted, there is a workaround possible. Please indicate if the asset is not having a posted transaction. You were mentioning journals, but I don't know if you posted them or not.

    Hi Kaled,

You can delete the FA, But in this scenario you need to delete related transaction of FA.

Could you please provide more information about the transaction it could be easy to give the solution.

    Best regards

    Hi Santhosh.K.K,

Deleting an existing (posted) accounting entry might be a bit delecate from an accounting and auditing perspective, even though it is technically feasible.

    Best regards,

    Dears,

The FA had related FA journals that are already posted, that is why we cannot remove the journal nor the FA.

I will consider changing the status of the Value model to suspended and make sure no depreciation is computed.

Mr. Andre, can you tell me more about the workaround in case there is no related posted transactions please?

Among the ideal approach could be to reduce the value of Fixed asset to zero and then update the value model status and then create another FA or so as needed.

    Hi Kaled,

As there are posted transactions, you cannot delete this asset. So like said above the status needs to be changed after post the value to zero.

If the journal was not posted and there were no transactions, you could get the same error message due to some records in the Dimension.... series. Deleting (be careful) records in two tables would be the solution then. When doing so, always test it in a separate environment first and make sure you have a backup.
