Connector for Microsoft Dynamics installation

Hello,

When I install the connector according to this procedure: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn507083.aspx

the installation program asks for the name of the server with Sql Server installed, and I type it, but the pre-installation validation says that "Microsoft Sql Server is required in order to install the Microsoft Dynamics AX database".

I would like to avoid installing Sql server in the machine where the AOS is running, so I would be grateful if anyone had the same experience and knows a solution.

Best regards,

Agostino

If communication to SQL server works (ping responds, there is no traffic blocked on firewalls), and if AX database IS installed on SQL server, then I would guess that you are pointing to SQL server only, while you probably have instances on it; if I am right, you should provide not only SQL server name, but SQL server name with instance name where AX database is located.

    regards

Hi, I tried everything, even serverName\InstanceName, he does not give error and I can ping the server. The problem arise when validating: it says I need Sql Server installed!

    Thank you

then probably permission/access error; if you could check logs on both: sql server and machine where you are trying to install connector would help; I believe what is in logs (mainly on machine where you are trying to install connector) would give you an answer.

from my experience worth to check is:

    - if sql server allows remote conenctions, and if so, if it listens on 1433

    - if user you are using to do install has sufficient permissions; be aware that even administrator may not have database permissions granted by default

    - also if possible, tro to connect to sql server/ax database from computer other than sql server itself using sql management studio; if it would not be possible, then reason would be clear

    regards

In the same machine where I try to install the connector there is AX client and AOS, that connects without problems to the Sql Server if I launch it with my account, so I don't think it's a problem of firewall or permissions. But it's true that the prerequisite report states that "This failure typically occurs because the Windows service for the SQL Server instance is not running, or because the user running Setup does not have permission to query the database.".

there is something wrong then, or I misunderstood you; according to above you have 2 servers:

    - one with aos & client

    - second with sql

as I understood you are trying to install connector on first one - what seems strange to me; if you have there aos & client already, it means you have to have connector installed already; are you trying to install second instance (?) of connector? or maybe which connector you are trying to install, so called 'net business connector' or any other?

my fault, sorry - just found you're meaning not net business, but other one; sorry then, misunderstood you.

Yes you're right regarding the architecture. The Dynamics connector is an option during AX installation, it's the first time I check this option.

In the same server where there is AOS and Client there is also the CRM back-end server, while the front-end CRM server is in another server.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Tomek,

You say "if you have there aos & client already, it means you have to have connector installed already": it is not true, you can install the AOS and Client without checking the option "Connector for Microsoft Dynamics".

Regarding the connection to sql server that does not work, in the logs I see the following message: "Error Code 1722: The RPC server is unavailable".

My account that runs the installation has sysadmin rights to the Sql server, and answering to another question of yours if I open Sql Server Management Studio in the machine where I run the installation, I can connect to the target instance without problems. So §I really don't see what can the cause of this Sql server connection error.

    Best regards,

    Agostino

    hi,

did you run the setup as admin?

does your account has admin rights for the sql server?

what is your sqlserver name (including instance)?

    Hi,

Yes I ran the setup as admin. My Sql Server name, including instance is: FLEXMIND-SQL\PROJECT

    Thank you
