SUTA Wages & Taxes

ReportReport
Posted on by

We have two employees that had SUTA states set as AK for 2017, but they should have been ND.  Their state taxes were set-up and paid correctly.

When we ran the quarterly SUTA report we discovered this error.  The correct payment amount was submitted to each state, based on wages entered and calculated on the state websites.

We have corrected the employee profiles for April, but how do we correct the SUTA reports for Q1?

    Tabitha,

You can edit the SUTA state in the Employee Pay Code History window (Cards > Payroll > Pay Code > History Button). If the scrolling window is not editable, you will need to mark "Edit Financial Fields" in Payroll Setup > Options. Once done, you can rerun your SUTA reports and they should be correct.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you so much.  This worked great!  The reports now match the payments that we made to each state.  Unfortunately this did not carry through to the GL balances.  Do I need to re-run the Period End Report posting for the changes, or enter an adjusting entry to the expense accounts?

Yeah, you can reverse out the prior GL entry and create a new one from the Period End Reports window, or just adjust manually if that is easier.

    Glad that helped!

    Tom,

Can you give me some reason as to why the taxable wages are coming out as zero (0) on the attached SUTA report.

    Thank you.

    Wayon,

Generally, this is because the employee met their wage limit in a prior quarter. Hope this helps!
