How does backflushing work in GP?

How does backflushing work with inventory in GP?  For a given MO, we see that a decrease inventory adjustment is made when components are issued. However, once the MO is complete, there is another decrease inventory adjustment is made but only for 5 of the 10 items on the original inventory adjustment. Is this part of backflushing in GP? How does it work?

Backflushing simply deducts the quantity from raw material inventory based on the standard bill of material quantity.  You don't manually issue backflushed components to a BOM like you do non-backflushed components.  The system automatically issues the BOM quantity to WIP.

The actions of backflushing when you close an MO depend on the closing option you select.  If you perform MO receipts for only 75% of the planned items, then only 75% of the items marked to backflush are backflushed.  However, some processes require that all 100% of the materials be issued and the remaining 25% are not recoverable.  Thus, if the correct closing option is taken, the remaining 25% will be backflushed as the MO is closed.

There is a significant amount of detail behind the several closing options.  We detail all of these in our book Shop Operations.  You might want to get a copy from our web site.
