Is there a way to connect 2 lanes, or POS systems, in one store with each other without using HQ?

Thank you Ed. The settings for RMS worked perfectly and the 2 lanes are now setup and communicating correctly.

Also, if anyone needs to do this setup in the future, I found this article simple and helpful in setting up the Firewall... How to Allow Microsoft SQL Server Express through the Windows Firewall

You need to setup a local area network between the two computers.

    windows.microsoft.com/.../start-here-to-set-up-a-home-network-in-windows-7

After that is done, you will need to allow the Microsoft SQL server through your firewall.

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../cc646023.aspx

Then go under RMS admin -> Configuration on 2nd station.  In the server field, enter the ip address or computer name of the first station.  Then make sure all the settings are the same between the two stations for connection settings.  Then go under the Register tab.  Change the station number to be 2.

Also make sure your database on station 1 has a register 2 defined in the RMS Manager -> Register -> Register List area.  All settings will need to be the same as Register 1 in the station 2 database.

Save all settings and start up the POS.

I went through the manual, and its a great find because of the significant information it provides. However, I could not find very specific instructions for setting up two lanes. For instance, how do I connect one lane to the database of another?

    Hi Ed,

    1) How would I make the lane setup to be register 2?

    2) I have the two computers connected via a switch. How would I configure the second lane to connect to the same database that the other register is already using?

I look forward to your reply

    Thanks,

    Shawn

Here is the basics of this.  I recommend getting your partner involved in the setup.

Use the same database.  Make one lane register 2.  Configure this lane to connect to the same database the other register is already using.

Network the 2 lanes together via a switch or router.
