Configuration key on custom solution

Hi,

We plan to use configuration keys on our custom solution. It seems we could not apply configuration keys on extensions (table extension, form extension etc.) If we apply configuration keys on new created objects, and in the extensions which referenced these objects, could these cause problems potentially when we disable the configuration keys.

Thanks,

Table and form extensions by themselves don't contain any functionality or elements. But every field, menu item button, or any other control that you put in table extension or form extension can have a configuration key.

    Hi Yuji,

The use of configuration keys without license keys and ISV licensing doesn't make sense anymore in my opinion. If you want to use it for customizations, it is not useful at all. To be able to switch on or off the configuration key, Dynamics 365 needs to be set in maintenance mode. When you have the configuration keys on the data model, you also have to synchronize the database. If you have a customization, does the customer wants to be able to turn on or off the modifications?

I do think there are benefits for ISVs to have the configuration key together with a license code, so the solution will not be visible when there is no appropriate license. It would also give an option to enable specific features of the standard application or ISV solutions.

Adding to Blue wang, You can assign configuration key to the extended fields of the table. When it comes to form extension if you attach the menu items, extended fields, form button controls etc.. there also you can specify your configuration keys for you custom components, when you disable your configuration key only the extended components will be invisible, but it won't effect the parent object.

You can just go through below links about how the configuration key and license certificates are designed for the ISV solutions.
