CRM Outlook Add-In Causing Slowness and Freezing

(0) ShareShare

Hello,

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Hardware

- Dell Latitude's some 64bit some 32bit

- CRM Server = Microsoft 2008 Server Standard (64bit)

Software

- CRM 2011 Rollup Pack 13

- CRM Client for Outlook version 5.0.9690.1992

- Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 (both 32bit) (Issue happens more on 2013)

Issue

- This started happening about a month back and has been driving me, once CRM client was installed and the Add-ins both active in Outlook, Outlook would freeze up and run extremely slow. We would get a pop up at the bottom of the screen that said "Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Microsoft Exchange Server (Exchange Server).

Troubleshooting

- This issue happens now on almost every machine with 2013 Outlook on it. I have narrowed down that the issue has to do with the Outlook add-ins for CRM because when I disable the 2 of them, everything returns to running normal but when I enable them everything comes to grinding halt and I get the above referenced popup message at the bottom right of the screen. I was hoping installing the client rollup pack 14 would help but sadly it did nothing. I would have renamed the OST and have it recreate it but alot of these issues are with new installs, so I am not sure what the point is of recreating a OST that was just created.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Have a look at this article to improve Outlook Client stability:

Note: you should look at upgrading SQL CE

    Hi,

What if we disable all the other add ins from Outlook except CRM add ins does the outlook still crashes or freezes.

Follow all the steps mentioned in the below Blog to see if this resolves your issue :

    Thank You.

    Hello,

We have similar issues with CRM.

Did you ever find a resolution to your problem?

Check the actual hardware specifications and especially make sure you have enough RAM 2GB just does not cut it, I hope you have 4 or more.

There were some major stability and performance improvements in update rollup 15 (and 16 as well I think). Unless you have a good reason not to, I would suggest getting everything up to rollup 16 or 17 if you can (server first, then clients, etc).

Also look at implementing WCF compression to improve the network trafifc demanded by the Outlook client, and configuring everything for https as this makes an order-of-magnitude difference to the way WCF traffic compresses.

    Adam,

We are using new hardware with I7 processors and 8G of RAM.

We also are using Online CRM 2013.

I have reinstalled CRM and tried many things suggested such as having URLs for CRM in the trusted sites in IE and having script scan turned off on our McAfee virus software.

    Hardware sounds good!

Your original post was confusing - you said you were using CRM 2011 with update rollup 13, but you now say you are using CRM Online 2013.

If you are using CRM online then you really do want to be using the CRM 2013 Outlook client, not the old 2011 one.

The only use case for having the the old client with newer servers is to enable you to go through an upgrade in a practical way. So while the old client is supported to give you time to get it upgraded, you really don't want to be using it in the long term. Get the 2013 client and service pack 1 to bring it up to scratch with your server version, and see how that works.

    Adam,

We are using the CRM 2013 Outlook client. Sometimes going into Accounts, Contacts, etc within Outlook and double clicking to open them up brings the window up and sometimes it gives the message waiting on a CRM server and then it does noting and the message goes away. Normally after that double clicking on anything does absolutely nothing. It is so unpredictable that it is just about ueseless.
