Check Field Format

Posted on by 1,135

Can the AP check number be modified to accept an alpha character.  The PR Check seems to accept it on Direct Deposit Advice slips.

Along with that, can the last check number field populate the next check number in Payroll properly.  I can modify the "Find Last Check Number" SP to do this for Payables.

Thanks, Dave

    Can I add a comment?

I work with a 3rd party product for payment of vendors by direct credit.

We use a two character alpha suffix on the RefNbr (Cheque Number) to guarantee that our numbers cannot clash with genuine cheque numbers.

We have been doing this since Solomon IV version 2.0x - about 15 years ago.

The 3rd party product does the chrque numbering, but all other aspects of AP Payment processing are done by Solomon.

There has been the ocasional problem over the years. But for some time now, Solomon code handles "our" documents with no problems.

    Hello David,

We have had some requests to allow alpha numeric check numbers in AP in the past but this functionality has not been yet worked into the product. The dissallowance of alpha numeric check numbers in AP is hard coded so it is not something we can work around.  However, we do get cases where users do get them into the system but were not sure exactly how.  The Manual Check tab in the AP Voucher and Adjustment screen used to allow them but it no longer does in SL 2011 SP1.

I realize that the they are allowed in Payroll.  When I create an alpha-numeric check in PR, it does properly show the next check number with the alpha character in it.  I'm not sure what you mean when you want the Payroll module to show the next check number properly.  Can you explain?

I do believe that the system should be consistent.  Either don't allow them at all or allow them in AP and PR.  We'll submit this to development.
