Management Reporter causing high CPU usage

Hi,

After installing Management Reporter 2012, CPU is constantly pinned to 100% causing numerous problems on user end. As soon as I stop MR service, usage goes down to the usual 10-12%. Machine is Server 2012 dual core 2.40GHz, 8GB, 64bit.

Has anyone had this issue and been able to resolve?

Are you using the DataMart?  You might want to configure the time that the DataMart update runs to ensure it runs overnight.  If you just installed it, you might want to start the services at the end of the day today to allow it to build the DataMart.

Thank you Richard, really appreciate your quick response. We do indeed use DM. It is a fresh install, we have about 20+ companies setup in GP, so I would follow your suggestion and start the other service tonight.

Question about configuring the time for update to run. If its to overnight, it means that any report we run the next day will only have yesterday's data, correct? What is a best practice here?

Not sure if this helps, but I did a bit more digging and it looks like its the MR 2012 Process service causes high CPU usage, with that services stopped and MR Application service running, CPU usage is more or less normal (it spikes to about 80% every 5 secs or so).

I think your issue might be the initial load of the DataMart and, once this completes, the DataMart could be updated hourly (to lower CPU usage).  But your scenario is correct.  If you update only at night, in the morning the financials would be correct but in the afternoon they would only reflect yesterdays values.  For most people, this is not an issue.

BTW...have you seen our new book on Management Reporter?  Check it out at http://www.AccoladePublications.;com

The server which runs DataMart require minimum 8GB RAM have you checked this.

Thanks Richard, sorry for late reply, I never got the notification about your post. Turns out our issue was with one of sql scripts with RM procedures, all it was a missmatch of upper/lower case letter. We had to turn verbose logging on to actually catch the error.

We had the exact same problem with MR2012.  We eventually had to allocate a certain number of resources to the specific Integration jobs to overcome this problem.

The initial loading of the DataMart took 22 hours and we only have 80GB worth of data.

The error on the script in the RM Procedure, was it one of the standard MR integration scripts?  How did you fix it?

After we enabled verbose logging, we saw a recurring error '[GL Transaction to Fact] has encountered an error' but hit a wall after that. We ended up opening a case with MS (via our support vendor) and it was MS tech who found the issue. He manually replaced the character in one of the procedures and voila, CPU usage went back to normal. He also mentioned that this fix will be incorporated in RM rollup 8 due next months.

    Hi,

I am facing the exact issue.

Could you please share the fix Microsoft made and what that stored procedure was?

    Thanks.
