Posting reports written to a text file

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Our posting reports are set up to be save as text file as part of the posting/print routine. We update the file path based on the accounting month we are posting. Does anyone else do this? Is there any real value you in saving the reports to a text file? Seems like a waste of time to me? Just looking for some input.

Thanks, Scott

    Hi

Totally agree with Bill on this one.  When I was taught to use GP as a user close to 20 years ago now (yikes!) - I was told that you needed to print them all because auditors looked at them.

The auditors never look at them.

Now years later, all reports can be reprinted - even the Bank Reconciliation ones that I have always told people to print.

For years now, I have told clients that the Bank Rec reports can be useful printed and manual journal entries - especially if you have manual documentation to go with them.  That I have had auditors ask for many times.

Otherwise, don't print - no need.

    Cheers

    Heather

Not to comment on waste of time - but you should know that all posting reports can be re-printed from GP at any time, with out your first having to sent them to a file copy.

Microsoft Dynamics GP for a number of years now has decided that even if we hit the cancel button on the print option window, the application is going to keep track of that posting document.

Looking in the Reports Menu ( for what ever module ) find the Posting Journal / Reports different name for different modules and then enter the criteria for when you want to reprint the report.

I have a number of new ( read younger clients ) that are all about not printing to paper and they only 'reprint to screen' or PDF if they need to review and or send information to someone else.

Hope this helps.  Remember, posting and printing can also be something mandated by your organization, or country requirements, before you change anything, be sure you know how this might impact your decision.
