Dexterity GP customization

Posted on by 170

I want to make customization with Dynamics.dic. So I make following steps:

  1. Create another folder c:\gpdev
  2. copy dynamics.dic
  3. copy dex.ini to this folder
  4. lanuch Dex.exe (Dexterity)
  5. Open c:\gpdev\dynamics.dic
  6. try to switch from debug mode to test mode following IG.pdf manual (During development, you will want to run your integration in Dexterity’s test mode).

It gives me dialog box:   You need to run dynamcis.dic Utilities before you can run Dynamcis.dic. Do you want to launch Dynamcis.dic Utilities Now?(Yes or NO)

What does it mean? No matter which  option  I choosed. dexterity applicaiton will termininate.

Could you please explain? Thx.

    Hi Jim,

Glad that worked out and thanks for taking the time to reply.

The Dexterity dex.ini file is in the Data folder inside of Dexterity.

    But, as an aside.

If you want to direct your dexterity launch to a custom dex.ini file for a specific project you can build a shortcut that launches Dexterity, the dev dictionary you're working on (you need to NOT name this dictionary 'Dynamics'), using the .ini file you specify. If your project and the target dex.ini file both reside in the c:\gpdev folder, the shortcut would look like this:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dexterity\Dex 11.0\Dex.exe" "C:\develop\develop.dic" "C:\develop\dex.ini"

You'll want to, of course, use whatever your pathnames are to the components listed.

Using this method, you have a Dex.ini file for each project, which is the preferred method.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Instead of copying the Dex.ini to the c\gpdev folder copy it to the root of your Dexterity folder (something like Program Files\ Microsoft Dexterity\<your root folder> and see if that works.  You might want to save off the dex.ini in the root before you overwrite but you don't have to.

If that does not solve your issue then I would next think you do not have the same version of Dynamics.dic (service pack) that is the current to the server you are connection to.  There is a way around that but best if you copy the Dynamics.dic from a working client folder rather than go around that validation.
