Business Portal 4 Query Access

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

I'm attempting to give query access to the Purchasing Manager role but not having any luck.  She can see the Query link on the left hand navigation, but gets an access denied when clicking on it.  I'm not sure if the problem is on the sharepoint side or the BP side.  I was unable to find the details or a specific role that grants access to queries.  Any advice on how I can grant this access without making her a BP administrator?

    Brian,

What version of Dynamics GP and Business Portal are you using?  Have you tried navigating from the BP home page to Site Actions > Site Settings > Business Portal Administration > Users.  You can assign Business Portal roles here.  I'm assuming she has access through SharePoint to navigate to that link since she sees it.  What is the full error message?

    Thanks

BP4, GP10.  I know how to assign the roles, but I don't know which one contains query capability.  The exact error is attached.

    Brian,

Assigning the Purchasing Manager role for the given company should work.  Make sure your user is logged into the correct company.

    Thanks

Ok - I figured this out based on your tip.  I had put her in the sharepoint group for Purchasing Manager, but had not added the Purchasing Manager role in the user setup.  Thank you!

Can you be more specific?  I am having the same problem.  I added a usergroup to the page.  Members can see "Queries" in the quicklaunch but when they click it they receive the same error message, not authorized.

    Patty,

The main thing to keep in mind is that there is one set of security for the pages (controlled by SharePoint) and one set of security for the data.  While this can be clumsy, it provides much more flexibility.  Navigate to BP home > Site Actions > Site Settings > Users (under Business Portal Administration).  Here you can add users and assign roles, which gives them access to the data.

    Thanks

I created a new role modifying data permissions to only tables/fields needed.  I assigned the employee to the role.  On the query page security is set to that role.  She has access to the page, clicks queries and receives the message that she is not authorized.

    Patty,

What queries page is your employee trying to use?  Could you try one of the installed roles to see if that works?  Some of the queries pages have been locked down to specific roles to secure the data.

    Thanks

Human Resources.  We want to now make is a shared page with the payroll team.  I created a new role, HRPR, and added unique data permissions.  I then assigned the payroll and HR team to the new role.  I think the issue is that the query page has “Center Queries”.  I thought I added the tables that are being used in the Center queries to the data permissions.  Is there a way to delete the center queries?  We do not use them and they are not listed on the queries organization section.

    Patty,

While I'm not 100% sure, I'd recommend trying the built-in HRM roles to see if they work.

    Thanks

    Rob
