Database Mirroring with SQL 2008

Wondering if enyone has tried database mirroring with Dynamics GP?  I have a customer that wants a high availability solution for their SQL server which is primarily used for GP.  I currently have the DYNAMICS and company databases mirrored and am able to failover to the mirror server without interrupting user sessions in GP.  Seems to work great.  Currently working on a way to keep the SQL logins in sync between the primary and mirror servers.  Anyone have thoughts or know of any potential problems?

Thanks guys!  Good to know it's been done before.

I'm attempting to modify this script to transfer logins from the primary to the mirror server.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918992

The plan is to schedule a job that compares SQL logins on each server and then create any new logins on the mirror server.  Although I should probably drop and recreate all logins to account for password changes.  GP adds an encryption layer of some sort when it creates the user password.  If you try to connect to SQL server outside of GP (using SMS or the ODBC connection for example) with a login created by GP it doesn't work.  It's also why you can't fix the password within SQL, you have to go through GP.  The script above seems to maintain that encryption layer so the same password works on the mirror server.

I've tested the failover during a check posting process.  It did interrupt the process, I assume because of temp tables.  Temp tables are created in the tempdb which isn't mirrored so they would only exist on the primary server.  The batch recovery routine continued after the failover and finished without errors though.

    Doug,

Take a look at KB Article 926490 - Description of the requirements to run replication, clustering, log shipping, and database mirroring together with Microsoft Dynamics GP

Re: Database Mirroring with SQL 2008

Hi, we have a customer mirroring GP10 on SQL2008. The memory usage was big using synchronous, so they switched to asynch. Also had a strange issue where one of the company databases and the Fabrikham database were constantly exactly the same size. Haven't got to the bottom of that particular one yet.

Also have eConnect and BP installed. We just copied the eConnect services to the mirrored server, so they are there if anything goes wrong. Any changes, and we copy the new service across manually.

Don't think there was any other issues, but if you come across any, post again. I'd be interested in your experiences.

    Best regards,
