Smartlist export to Excel cannot find the file.

Posted on by 75,730
After a GP 2013 upgrade we have one user that after she generates a Smartlist and clicks the Excel button, she immediately gets a message stating that the temporary Excel file SL tries to create cannot be found. The path is to her temporary folder. When I check the folder there are no files in it. We even tried logging is as an admin on this computer and the problem remains. It is as if the file never gets created. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Stephanie - exactly what I needed for a quick fix.

Using  SmartlistEnhancedExcelExport=TRUE  in the Dex.ini points the export to the users documents folder.  I've started using this as a work around b/c export solutions for every favorite just doesn't work.

    Janeece,

You can use SmartList Export Solutions to define exactly where Excel exports a SmartList to. Export Solutions also allows for the definition of Preparation and Completion macros which can manipulate the data and format of the file before and after the data is passed to Excel.

    Hi Janeece,

I had this same issue and here is what I have found.

IT support put DELTEMP on the server and the user continues to lose their files since the excel export is going to temp.  I have not found away to change the default location of the export yet..  This would solve the issue!

Again please run a Process Monitor log and see if you get access denied results. Just because you are 'Domain Admin' doesn't mean you can't be restricted to a folder location.

I have the same issue in GP2013 and I am a domain admin!

Any update on the resolution? This is a post that is getting a large number of views so we would like to get a confirmed resolution.

Try running a Process monitor when you do the export and you should be able to see the path. Or if there is a issue during the export PM should be able to give you a idea as well.

Soma, this is the first time I have ever seen this. I had even made sure the folder existed. It must be some Windows security issue. I am turning this one over to their IT staff since they are the ones obsessed with security.
