Sorry in advance for the long post.
I had a hard drive failure Saturday night after we closed (came in Sunday
and the computer was loading like it was going through quicksand). I setup a
computer we use as a DVR for our security cameras(already had SQL running
and RMS installed just for this purpose) to take care of sales until I
finish building and configuring a new Windows 7 Professional system to take
over(huge pain in the butt BTW). Luckily I have batch files setup to backup
everyday so I lost no data ( my brother-in-law has a computer repair store
and was able to pull my backup from the hard drive). We're not sure if it
was the hard drive, motherboard, or processor since I told them to quit
wasting time trying to figure it out and build me a new one. The system was
3-4 years old and I wanted to upgrade to a net display and a new Star USB
printer anyway so I figured now was the ideal time to take the leap. I
installed 7 instead of XP because I want to keep moving forward as much as I
can, and XP will be nearing the end of it's support cycle and most hardware
and programs are being built with 7 in mind. I wish I had stuck with XP just
because it's a headache to get everything configured with 7, but I am sure
I'll be glad down the road that I went with 7, it's just hard to feel that
way right now.
Everything went pretty well getting the backup up and
running, but I have
hit a few snags along the way since the peripherals were
never set up on the
backup system. It's an XP pro system so all the drivers,
etc. are the same
as the old system that fried, which has helped a lot. Just
a quick note here
to everyone, if it is at all possible for you have a
backup system with RMS
installed ready to go in the case of emergency do it,
you'll be glad you
did. I am usually not the prepared type, but having this
backup system ready
to go made a huge difference as to whether I was going
to pull all my hair
out or not. I can take my time getting my new system
setup and running
smoothly without the pressure of not having a system
running the store. This
happened on a Sunday so no one was open to get any
hardware and keep my
store running. Sorry about the long post, I just
thought maybe it would help
to get a few more people prepared in the case of
hardware failure to their
store's life blood.
Anyways..... the main
problem I'm having with my backup system is getting
the cash drawer to pop.
The printer prints and works fine. The printer is an
Epson TM T88IIP. I have
OPOS installed and the check health for the cash
drawer pops the drawer
within the configuration utility. It just won't do it
in the POS. I have the
cash drawer enabled and the LDN for the cash drawer
is set the same in RMS
Manager as in the utility. I have checked everything
many times and it is
all setup properly. I don't know how long it's going to
be until I get my
new system on line, and the cash drawer not popping is a
royal
PITA.
Any help here would be much appreciated. This really has me
baffled.

Craig,
Have you tried using Windows drivers instead of OPOS? Apparently I am one of the few, but I have been running TM88's using the Windows drivers for years. There was one tweak I always had to make after setup to get it to print fast, you have to change the receipt template to use the printer's built-in fonts, but other than that it has been no problems.
You could try the driver first and if that gets it to work, then worry about the speed. If you do it and need the font names and help finding the receipt cutter settings give me a shout.
