Transaction Entry Screen Slowness

We normally leave our GP support to our vendor but now and then I (solo IT guy) need to troubleshoot some issues.

Our SQL Server which hosts our GP 2010 application is a Windows Server 2008 Standard 32 Bit with 4GB of RAM. Since we have other DB's on here, the machine is pretty busy. While CPU usually is low, the Memory usage is usually over 3GB over time. I usually reboot on Sunday evenings as it improves performance for Monday's payroll entry and other things.

The biggest complain is the transaction entry screen. Usually on the first entry of the day, it is very sluggish...tabbing through fields can take forever. However, usually after the first entry, it will be fine. Sometimes, it may slow down again but it is usually the first entry of the day that is so slow.

As a Systems Administrator, I am planning on getting us upgraded to a 64 bit OS with more memory, so I know that can't hurt. However, for now, I need to find ways to fix this problem. We are allowed 6 calls a year to MS for GP issued but wanted to hit the forums first.

Thanks...
Brian

Brian - you should let the forum users know which transaction entry screen you are referring to. There are a multitude of transaction entry screens in GP.

I have seen a few cases where speed of movement through fields in windows is improved by disabling the AutoComplete functionality.  Do your users have this enabled?  Try disabling it for a bit and see if it makes a difference.  The AutoComplete button/window is found under the User Preferences window (on left sidebar on Home tab).

Also, what transaction entry screen are you referring to?  Payroll Transaction?  Do you have any customizations around this window?

By the way, you've come to the right place for additional assistance.  I think you'll find quite a few people around here who are very passionate about identifying solutions for those who have questions!

End user turned off AutoComplete to no avail...same problem...

This is a Financial Transaction...path: TRANSACTIONS, FINANCIAL, GENERAL....

And it is really only this screen...

First problem...just going to this screen is about a 20-30 second wait...when we enter a reference and then TAB, another 20-30 second wait...we go down to the distribution reference and enter a line of info, tab down and another wait...that's the main problem.

    Brian,

I would recommend going through KB 910982.  This will have you do some tracing.  In this case since it is specifically a performance issue, pay attention to the Profile Script.  That should give some indication of why it is taking so long.  Or at least get you pointed in the right direction.  I would start there.

I will check out KB 910982 and see if it works for this issue...thanks!
