Beginner questions to Dynamics CRM and portal add-on

Hello experts,

I started touching Dynamics CRM a few weeks ago, following the official documents.

Though I do have some problem while following the docs:

1. I don't see a big picture of how Dynamics is structured, e.x. What's an entity, what's the relationship between different apps Sales Marketing...etc, there are actually tons of questions like this in my head that each document start with specific area, which makes me very confused that I don't understand how does everything works even after I walked through the steps. Is there any good reference to help me have a more clear picture about what is Dynamics?

2. The documents I found in MS site are supported with CRM 2013, while I'm using Dynamics 365 now. A lot of information are not the same when I compared to what I see on 365 now. Is it the only document officially or I was looking at the wrong place?

3. I subscribed portal add-on and tried to test its functionality due to some business needs, though in my trial instance I don't see Portal on my entity menu (Portal URL does work) and also nothing show up after I created a new entity and published (I tried cleared cache several times and it does not work on not only one but everything I created). Does anyone have some idea about the possible reason? In addition, I receive a failure pop-up message saying Dynamics ended up in error, without any error code or detail. I did report it everytime to MS but not sure if it impacts anything in my work.

It may be some very beginner question but I've been stucked here for a while, so appreciate for any advise to get me out of the struggle.

Thank you very much!
