D365 F&SCM: Problem with scaling image-based Excel reports in Electronic Reporting (ER)

Hi,

I need advice on configuring ER footers. Specifically, reports based on an Excel template.

I want to use an image with embedded text in the footer. The reason for using an image is the character-limit in Excel footers (and it also seems you can’t, for example, left-justify text in the center or right sections). It’s important that the right section remains true text, since it contains many variables. The other sections, implemented as images, should visually match the text section as closely as possible.

In the scenario where a static image is defined at the Excel-template level, I have no trouble scaling the image so that in the PDF output it appears approximately the same size as the text section. The image is also sufficiently sharp to meet expectations.

Configuration in Excel:

Result in PDF:

However, we need to vary the image per company, based on variable values. Therefore, images must be defined in the mapping model, the model, and the format mapping. When I define the footer at the report format level, I can specify a percentage scale for the image (just like in Excel) but the scaling outcome is unsatisfactory. Unfortunately, the image becomes very blurred and clearly stands out from the first, text-based part.

Configuration in ER:

Result in PDF:

Do you know of any way to reliably scale images in the footer so they can be defined at the report-format level?

Are there any additional parameters? Or perhaps a workaround?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi,

I struggled with the same issue, that in excel per se, you cant have text in the middle or on the right side that is either right-aligned or in the middle.
I switched for this and other reasons to a word template.

Nevertheless, the best practice I heard from an experienced ER developer is to use page components in excel, in case you have requirements like that for the footer. I havent tried it myself, but if you want to go with excel, I would give it a try.

    Kind regards, Adis
