Field from a custom entity to appear on the contact entity form

Hi

I have a custom entity and I'd like one of the fields from the custom entity to also appear on the contact entity form so basically users can look at the contact form and see this information without having to navigate to the custom entity form to view this information, is there anyway to do this with the current out of the box functionality?

Thanks

Spaz

    Hi Spaz

Have you Tried using Subgrid, Add the Subrid of the related entity to you form and make sure that the View that you use has your custom field included in its columns, this way when users view the record they will see the related record instances with the field that you want to expose

Let me know if you need any help, Kindly tick Yes to verify :)

    Best Wishes, Raz

    Hi Raz,

Yes I tried a sub grid prior to my post the problem with the subgrid option is the way it appears on screen as the name suggests in grid form. I wanted just a one off field to appear rather than a grid if that is possible?

    Thanks

    Spaz

    Hi Spaz,

HTML web resource will be useful,

    1. Create a html web resource, and have embeded coded to fetch data from custom entity.

    2. Include HTML web resource in contact form.

In case my response helps you, please mark as "Answered".

    Thanks

    Hi Spaz,

You could also look into Quick View Forms that provide "a template to view information about a related entity record within a form for another entity record. This means you do not need to navigate to a different record to see the information you need to do your work."

This will allow you to have one field displayed on your related entity.

The Only way without creating a duplicate field and mapping it would be as using a Web Resource, There are Also Quick View or Card Forms that can be consumed on forms depending on the relationship , so you could possibly expose some fields from another related entity this way but it would required having a lookup relationship to exist to expose the remaining information?

    Hi all,

Thanks for the responses, I'm still a novice to CRM and therefore currently do not know enough about HTML web resources so unable to do this, I tried using a Quick view, however when I get to the 'Quick view control properties' page under the 'Data Source' section my custom entity does not appear as a selection in the 'Related Entity' section and I don't see my quick view either even though I have created a 1:N Relationship.

I've tried creating duplicate fields, ensuring the fields are on both entity forms and mapping the fields this semi works as in the field will only be automatically updated on the contact record if I create the contact  from within the custom entity (that is click on the + sign from within the custom entity and create a NEW contact), if I simply create a new contact from the Contact entity and then link this contact to the custom entity the field will not update on the contact record.

For now it appears the only thing which works is the sub grid (although I did not want the actual grid itself to be visible on the form, I simply want a field to appear on the form) one last hope is that I am possibly doing something incorrect when trying to use 'Quick views', as I said before I have created a 1:N Relationship, I have published all customizations, but when I go to the contact entity and open the main form, click on the 'Insert' menu and click on the 'Quick View Form' icon, I do not see any info related to my custom entity within the 'Data Source section' am I doing something wrong here?

    Thanks
