Using the CRM VSS Writer to backup CRM 2013 using DPM 2012

Wasn't sure whether this should be logged under DPM or CRM....apologies if I'm in the wrong space.

I'm trying to get DPM 2012 to back up our CRM 2013 system:

We have Web/App Server and a separate SQL server as the back end. We've used a SQL Alias to connect through from CRM to the SQL server. I've registered the CRM VSS writer in DPM, but when I try to add it to a protection group it complains that there's no agent installs on crm.domain.com.

In SharePoint 2010, I'd run ConfigureSharePoint.exe -ResolveAllSQLAliases to fix this same issue. Is there a similar method hidden in CRM 2013 somewhere, or is it simply not supported to use DPM to backup CRM using an SQL Alias for CRM data connections?

CRM App server is UKMANCRM2
Our CRM SQL Server is UKMANCRM3, with CRMSQL as the alias.

Still struggling with this one...I'm beginning to guess it's not supported to back up CRM into DPM where the SQL connection uses an alias in CRM 2013?

Gave up on this one for now, so reverted to using the physical hostname of the SQL server rather than an alias.

Amended the ConfigDB value in the registry of the FE server.

Amended the ConnectionString and SQLServerName columns in the Organization table of the ConfigDb.

    Rebooted the FE

DPM now backs up using the CRM VSS. Maybe it's one that the product group will consider eventually - who knows! :)

The CRM VSS writer is a tool that allows you to create a backup of your CRM 2013 database using DPM 2012. The process may take some time, but it can be done in one single step, and the output will be an XML file that can be imported into your CRM database in order to make the backup. Well, one of my friends wants me to read https://www.themovieblog.com/2020/11/top-films-about-unrecognized-writers/ article so that I could know about the top films covering the life of unrecognized writers.
