Using multiple customer lookups in Business process flow

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi all

I am creating a business process flow, where I would like to add the customer lookup multiple times.
But it doesnt seem like it is possible.

I can understand why it is not the scenario MS wants us to do. But has anybody any knowledge on how to enable this?

    Hi Jimmi

Yes you cannot use, Find Customer or case in the same business process flow twice. Its by design. This is not a lookup field, its a special field which lets you search your customer and once you have searched and selected it automatically populates 'customer' field. Its logical as well, if you have found your customer in stage 1, why would you need it to find it again in stage 2. Although you can place the customer lookup multiple times in different stages of same workflow.

    Hi Jimmi,

So, I took the opportunity business process flow and added "Customer" to the "Develop" stage to be selected.  I then added it to the Propose stage as well and made it required in the "Propose" stage.  This worked perfectly.  Am I misunderstanding your situation?

    Thanks,

Can you provide screenshot of what you are searching while selecting the field? Looks like, you are right. The fields you have mentioned are system required fields and hence must be populated before you save the record. So, it has to be present in initial stage and hence MS might have restricted it in putting in another stages.

    Hi Drew

Exactly. Within the same BPF, different stages, add the lookup to customer.

    Ie. Find customer.

We have convinced the customer to work differently without adding it several times. But as what I see is that it is not possible.

Microsoft has for some reason limited us to not be able to add some values several times within the same BPF.

All other fields can be added several times within seperate stages.

    the fields I mention are:

    Find customer

    Find case

    Resolve case

    Hi Jimmi,

If you are asking to add multiple customer lookup fields in same stage, then it is not possible and does not sound logical as well. Even if we add any fields multiple times on the form, it just adds multiple controls, but eventually all controls are pointing to single field while storing data. So, if this is the case, it is not possible.

Can you please elaborate more on your scenario?

    Hi Jimmi,

You want to setup a business process flow with multiple stages and multiple steps per stage and be able to lookup the customer and set the value appropriately in multiple steps right?  Am I understanding what you are asking?

    Thanks,
