Management Reporter Security Issue

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi,

We are having an issue. One of our clients uses Management Reporter and only has one person who uses it. As of right now, she is the one who goes into Report Designer and generates the reports. They want to give another user access to Report Designer, but they only want them to see 2 of the reports. I know that I can restrict report access in Management Reporter by company but I can't figure out how to restrict it by individual reports. Any ideas?

Thanks!

    Hi RM82,

Fairly easy.. In MR 2012 you just have to create some sub-folders in the report library and manage access to the folder within MR Viewer Report Library Security..  The person that generates the report just needs to remember to put them in the proper output folder when the report gets generated..

The company access is managed in Report Designer.

The report access is managed in the Report Viewer.

    Béat,

Thanks for the info. That clears up a few things. I think this may be a little bit more complicated than that. The user who generates the reports sometimes is out of the office for long periods of time. They want this new user to be able to generate the 2 reports from report designer but see none of the other reports in there. Is that even possible?

    Thanks!

    Nope,

Sorry you can't.. You're either a Designer or a Browser in MR (aside of being an Administrator who can manage also the security).  The Report library security can also be managed from within Designer under :  Tools > Report Library Permissions...

What you can do however is to run the 2 reports on a schedule in MR2012, thus they will be generated automatically in the destination library folder. Keep in mind that MR manages historical versions of the reports, so you can anytime go back to previous report versions, even if you had generate a new one every day. There is no 'retention' limit that you can define in MR, so you have to take care of the clean-up yourself of report generations in MR Viewer.
