I'm beginner to Dynamics 365 and planning to install the development environment for F&O and practice myself. I heard that I need partner subscription to access LCS and download F&O VM. But I don't have any contact with partners. Is there any other option available to download the VM and setup on Hyper-V?

You can sign up for a preview subscription , I dont think there is another way to download /Deploy VM.

The Free trial doesn't give you access to a dev system. Partner/Customer trial is the only way to get access to a dev VM.

Hi Nikolaos,

Thank you for the information. Really useful. I checked with my company and ultimately found a VM and LCS subscription login.

The download was showing below versions.

FinOps v10 Modified date 4/11/2019

VHD v10.0.5 Modified date 10/12/2019

Which version is suitable to download and setup? And I heard the VM comes with Windows server 2016 datacenter version (180 days trial copy).

The VM included visual studio ? and what version ? Can use visual studio 2019 community version or any community version for development purpose ? What version of sql server?

10.5 is the latest. Use that if you want to use the latest version.

VS is installed on the machine, and SQL Server, too. Everything you need for D365FO development is there.

Just login to the VM to see the versions. Until now it has been VS2015 and SQL Server 2016 (or 2017, not sure).

You need a VS license to activate Visual Studio.

Windows has 180 day trial, you can rearm it 3 times so you have about 1,5 years. But every 6 months MS publishes a new VM image so you will not run out of time.

Perfect. I learned lot from your answers. Now I come to know there is a provisioning before login the VM. I downloaded the VM via one of my colleague O365 account. I don't want to register his email ID as admin in my VM or he might leave the company.

Can I use my O365 account which is created with another company name that I can register as admin and provisioning ?

Every time I login dynamics 365 the login process will go any check my account in azure AD ? Or is it only 1 time register process (Register admin) and after that completely that I can use the VM offline ?

Can I skip this register process that want to use the VM as independent and offline ?

It doesn't matter which account you used for download, it's exactly the same file, same VM.

When you setup the VM you run AdminProvisioningTool to set your O355 account as the admin of the D365FO system on the VM. That O365 account must be in O365 tenant that has D365FO licenses (customer / partner trial or actual licenses).

You need to login every time you use the system. I think offline won't work. It used to work with some older VM versions but not anymore.

If you open D365FO via Visual Studio it will use "offline authentication" but you still need Internet connection.

Thank you very much for the information.

Currently I managed to install the VM and its upto date and ready to go.

1. I registered the Windows 2016 server with license key and updated with latest software updates

2. Registered the visual studio 2015 with valid license key

3. Installed google chrome

4. Installed the latest SSMS 18.3.1 to work with SQL server DB.

5. Registered the Dynamics 365 FO with admin account (pro versioning) with my company O365 account and its was successful.

Now when I called following URL to login the FO365, Its redirecting to my company login web page, Which I used to register as admin (my O365 account used to pro versioning) on azure AD.

usnconeboxax1aos.cloud.onebox.dynamics.com

How do I correct this issue ? Its there any host file that I can check and modify?
