Dynamics AX Offline database synchronization

One of my clients has a production site in a hurricane prone location.

Currently they are using RDS to connect remotely to the AX servers at the headquarter which are in a different location.

They are looking for a way to run their operations in AX locally independent from the AX 2012 R3 headquarter system in case of a situation where the internet connection goes down due to a disaster.

Does anyone have any experience with implementing and running an Offline database for AX 2012 and replication data and transactions bidirectionally between a local AX database and the central AX database at the headquarter?

is there any 3rd party solution which could be considered?

RE: Dynamics AX Offline database synchronization

You can't have two systems that sync bidirectionally with each other. That would be impossible already because of performance limitations - every transaction would need to be synced to the other system before it could be committed (otherwise you could not avoid update conflicts and other data issues). And since you require offline capability, that would be the final nail in the coffin - how could you replicate everything bidirectionally and be offline at the same time?

If you want to have another independent system, that means that you need to have two separate AX instances which are independent of each other.  Then you can build integrations to exchange some data that you need to have integrated between headquarters and the remote location. But even then you need to deal with potential conflicts if you have bidirectional integrations. Usually it's good to define one system as the master / owner of data, and let them "win" in case of any conflict. Otherwise you need manual work to resolve the conflicts.

The simplest solution would be to have some alternative process when internet is down, and enter the data manually to AX afterwards.

It really depends on your customer's business requirements and the amount of money that they are willing to invest in disaster recovery.
