I am trying to add a hierarchical relationship on the Product entity, however the setting is greyed out:
Is this by design, and can I change it so that I can create hierarchical vizualisations on custom relationships on the Product entity?

Hi Jacob,
there is, already, a hierarchy relationship for the product entity (Parent Product) - you can see it under Hierarchy Settings ("product_parent_product")
Also, you can only use one 1:N relationship per entity as a hierarchy relationship, so you can't add another one.. Besides, if you look at the managed properties of the Product entity, you'll see that it's set up in such a way that you cannot change the hierarchy relationship.
Long story short - I don't think you can do what you are trying to do (instead, try using that default relationship)
