Metadata Service for Dynamics GP

(1) ShareShare

Hi all,

I have two questions-

1. I can see metadata publishing enable/disable configuration in the MS Dynamics GP config files. What does "Metadata Publishing" mean in GP terms? Does it mean publishing of the WSDL and it's access through HTTP protocol?

2. Is there a service which will give me metadata (that is, Column Names, type, constraints) for a given table (or Doc Type) in Dynamics GP. Is this available?

Regards,

Harish U

    Hi Harish, may I know your contact number?

    1. What configuration file are you referring to? For example, I looked at the Dynamics.exe.config and did not find any Metadata Publishing tags or properties.

    2. What service are you referring to? Our services (both SOAP and REST) are process driven, not table driven. We have service end points that allow you to import the typical master records (customers, vendors, items) etc., but even some of those involve more than one table. You have other products like GP Power Tools that do allow you to create custom services, which I suppose would allow you to target a specific table.

    He is talking about the config file for web service, DynamicsGP.config.

    it has something like

    <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" externalMetadataLocation="http://ALMAS:48620/Metadata/WCF/Full/schemas.microsoft.com.dynamics.gp.2010.01.wsdl"/>

    Almas,

    Thank you for the additional info. So, according to your info above, we are referring to the traditional SOAP-based Dynamics GP web services. And yes, the httpGetEnabled property for the serviceMetadata tag allows you to specify whether service metadata can be published and retrieved with an HTTP Get operation.

    Harish is lucky to get his answer. :)

    But I was looking for his contact number since he have asked some very good question related to web services and I hope by now he may know about them and I can talk with a little to learn from him. :) but it seems he is not in touch with the community anymore.
