I have applied the GP 2018 year-end update to several GP 2018 R2 installations and each time I have received this log file after upgrading the reports. Nothing appears to be wrong as the reports continue to work by why is log written?

I did something like this when when getting the error updating form 18.3.1200 to 18.5.1556 I changed the first section and added the second section, then reran the update. Worked a treat.

    ['18.3.1173' to '18.3.1200']

    ### Do nothing here.  Just needs to be in here.

    ['18.3.1200' to '18.3.1233']

    ### Do nothing here.  Just needs to be in here.

    NSANTIN,

I ran into this issue a few times over my long GP life.. and it really  was for some weird upgrades that were out-of-the-regular path and with modules like Canadian Payroll, which weren't necessarily tracked correctly. Every module in GP has one of those RepXXX.txt files with the history of the field changes between the various GP builds.

    Richard,

Prior to any GP upgrade I always perform a full export of all customized Forms & Reports.. and as Derek said, you can always start from scratch if GP utilities doesn't want to cooperate.

What I did knew for many years is that you can import in Report Writer from another REPORTS.DIC file.. but, I didn't knew that this won't work for FORMS.DIC and ran into this issue only recently with a FORMS.DIC from an old GP 2010 SP which I didn't had a setup for and couldn't therefore upgrade from.. in the end I managed to get the FORMS.DIC loaded into a GP 2013 after I upgraded the dictionary and manage to create a package file.  Something to keep in mind for next upgrade :-)

Actually the better way to fix this is to manually edit the Rep0.txt file in the GP2018 folder. It's missing the 628-->672 instruction. You'd add something like this:

    ['18.0.628' to '18.0.672']
    ### Do nothing here. Just needs to be in here.

make sure the preceding section is updated to end at 628 and the subsequent section to now start at 672

RE: Odd message after applying GP 2018 Year-End update

We’ve seen this is a couple of cases related to the ‘Update Modified Forms and Reports’ process in Utilities, that you're attempting to run, but from what I'm able to determine, it isn't a true error, as I've had customers get this message even though their forms & reports dictionary files were updated/created by Utilities as expected.

If your modified forms and/or reports dictionary files were actually created and contain the forms/reports at the new Dynamics GP 2018 year-end version, you should be fine and you can ignore this message.

Otherwise, if those dictionary files didn’t get created/updated, you can try importing in a package file containing all those objects if you made one at the prior version, otherwise modified reports can be manually imported into Report Writer, but we don’t have that option with modified forms, as we can’t manually add them into Modifier, a package file would be our only option.

    These options are explained here:

    A. If you have package files of the modified forms and reports made from the prior version, you can import the package files into the 'Customization Maintenance' window on the new version, which will create the updated forms and reports dictionary files on the fly, at the location the Dynamics.set file is specifying.

    B. Manually import the modified reports:

        1. Take the Reports.dic or a copy of the Reports.dic from the prior version and put it on the machine's Desktop or another location.

        2. Launch the new Dynamics GP 2018 year-end and login as SA.

        3. Open the Report Writer window by clicking on Microsoft Dynamics GP > Tools > Customize > Report Writer.

        4. In the ‘Product’ dialog box, select one of the modules in which you have modified reports setup; we’ll start with ‘Microsoft Dynamics GP’. Click OK.

        5. Next, click the ‘Reports’ button to open Report Writer.

        6. In Report Writer, you will see a list of ‘Original Reports’ and a window for ‘Modified Reports’; the ‘Modified Reports’ list may be empty since the update failed.

        7. Click the ‘Import’ button, then in the ‘Import Reports’ window, for ‘Source Dictionary’, click the ellipse (…) button and browse to the Reports.dic file mentioned in step #1 above. Click Open for that Reports.dic and then you should see a list of your modified reports for the ‘Microsoft Dynamics GP’ module under the ‘Source Dictionary Reports’ column.

***If you do not see any reports listed under the modified reports, or get an error that the dictionary cannot be opened, this means that the Reports.dic may be damaged/corrupted and we need to find another one to use***

        8. Double-click or highlight each of the modified reports and click the ‘Insert’ button so that all modified reports show under the ‘Reports to Import’ column. Click the ‘Import’ button.

        9. Now, in Report Writer, you should see your modified reports listed under the ‘Modified Reports’ column.

        10. Click each of the modified reports and then click the ‘Validate’ button to verify none of the reports have any validation issues.

--If any reports have issues, you’ll need to check that report to find out why it failed the update, as it may need to be fixed to work with the new version.

--If none of the reports show any issues, they should be fine working in the new Dynamics GP 2018 year-end version.

        11. Repeat this for the other modules you have modified reports for and then users will need to verify inside of Dynamics GP 2018 year-end that the modified forms and reports actually do work.

***NOTE: There isn't any way to manually import modified forms into Modifier. You must use a package file or 'Update Modified Forms and Reports' process.

    Thanks
