Probability as a Picklist/Calculate with a Picklist

Posted on by Microsoft Employee
Hallo everybody, I want to change probability to a picklist. This is not possible, so I created a new probability field. The problem: It's a need to multiplicate this probability to calucalte the Expected Revenue (Probability * Est Revenue). But I can not calculate with this Picklist. How can I solve this?

    Hi Hannes_83,

    Unfortunately you cannot change the field type once it is set. You either have to delete and recreate it or you can create a new field with the desired field type.

    I am also not very clear on how you're expecting Est. Revenue to be calculated without having an Est. Revenue value to begin with. So I will offer a solution, but its likely that it might not solve the requirement you are requesting.

    Firstly, there is a requirement for two inputs, namely probability and Est. Revenue. As you are looking for a drop down list, you were correct in creating a new probability drop down list / option set. Once you have set its values, use the out of the box probability field to store the values associated to the option set, for example:

    10% --> 0.1

    25% --> 0.25

    50% --> 0.5

    75% --> 0.75

    100% --> 1

    To do this, create a new business rule that, when a pick list option is selected, sets one of the above values into the default probability field:

    Once you have the business rule set, create a new Est. Revenue field (Calculated currency) that will completed the calculation between the probability percentage and the est. revenue.

    The resulting fields you should have should look like the following:

    After you've published the above changes, you can test it out. The resulting behavior would be as follows:

    You can then decide if you want to hide the probability value field or make other fields read-only.

    Hope this helps!
