Star (SP-200) receipt printer on Windows Pro 64bit

Hi,

Is there any tricks or workaround to make my Parallel printer work with RMS 2.0 on Windows 7 Pro 64bt?

Drawer connected to the printer, printer connected to a PCI card that I've installed.

Tried generic text driver, that did not work.

Thanks

J. S.

As far as I know, Win7 64b does not support parallel ports.  You will either need to use a USB to parallel cable or change your printer to a USB model.

I've built numerous machines with Win 7 64 bit with a parallel port native to the motherboard, with no problems.  However, when adding a PCI parallel card, it can be flaky.  Check Device Manager to make sure it shows that it's working properly.  If so, try to print a test page.  If you're using this as a Windows printer (not OPOS), then use the Star driver.  It allows you to configure the cash drawer.

If the PCI parallel card doesn't work, then use a USB to parallel cable, as Jeff suggests.  I've done that for clients, and it works well.

All this doesn't matter. Star doesn't make a proper windows 7 driver. Don't knock yourself out.

Pony up the money for a new printer and sell the old one on ebay :).

Which model?  I have clients using TSP743 thermal printers on Windows 7 machines, with the Star driver, and it works fine.

Thank you all for your help.. I bought a USB printer:

Star Micronics TSP100 TSP143U Receipt Printer. Hopefully this one will work.

    Thanks

They work great although we sell the ECO version, a longer warranty (4 years vs 3) and saves the environment by going to sleep and Star buys eco credits!

    Whatever.

My fave is still the Epson tm88.

RMS accepts both Windows and OPOS drivers. Since there are no 64-Bit drivers for this printer, I would recommend using OPOS. You can download the OPOS utility from here. Install both the OPOS Printer & Cash Drawer utility and then open it. (Start Menu -> All Programs -> StarMicronics -> OPOS POSPrinter Register) Then its just a matter of configuring the device. You need to locate SP242FC (Parallel Interface) or SP242FD (Serial Interface). In both cases make sure you select the right port for OPOS. For serial, if you have  not made any dipswitch changes to the printer it is very likely that you can leave the default settings for Baud Rate, Parity, Data, & Stop Bit. The rest of the settings can remain unchanged. You can use the check health button to make sure the OPOS device is configured properly. RMS will require the device name you assign to the printer, please remember or write this down. Repeat the steps above for configuring a cash drawer.

For configuring RMS, please check out this thread. Start at configuring Store Manager.
