Configuration Package automatic export in Excel

Hello,

I have many configuration packages that I have to export to Excel daily to update reports and queries. I was wondering if there's a way to schedule daily exports directly in Dynamics, and the files would be saved on a SharePoint folder?

If not available in Dynamics, is there any kind of Flow or Power Automate that could complete this task?

Thank you,

    Hi Kawamura-san,

Unfortunately, the expose datasets does not seem to be available for custom made configuration packages. It would be possible to connect some table ID directly into Power Query, but many tables ID are missing when l

I think I will go the Power Automate desktop option and see what can be done.

    ありがとうございました!

    Hi MahGah san,

Yes, Edit in Excel can write the data back to BC. It's very useful feature. Please check my blog post below:

    N
ote that Edit in Excel is NOT the method I mentioned previous comment.

The method, retrieve data via OData URL on Excel, is read only.
But BC data can be update via OData URL. ZHU YUN knows more about this method than I do.

Hi, as Kawamura mentioned, for this kind of requirement, you should use Odata or API to do it. But there may not be pages and queries in the system that meet your needs, so this may require a little customization.

    More details: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/webservices/web-services

Or you can also use the Edit In Excel feature, you can refresh the data in excel.

    Hi,

Just only add a row on Web Service list page. We can add a Page or a Query as a service that have OData URL. Anyone who have access permission to this BC data can retrieve data with Power Query using this URL and set into Excel or Power BI.

Note that not all column of table are contained in Page/Query object, so you have to extend Page or create new page/query as you need.

To get data from web service and set into Excel. see below image.

    Hi,

With Power Automate Desktop, you can automate the manual tasks you perform every day.

Or, you can expose datasets with Web Service feature, and get data in Excel with Power Query. Once you get data as tables in Excel, you can transform data as you like.

    I hope this helps you.

For configuration packages there is nothing in the standard system that could do that. So it will need to be customized.
