Our office uses Microsoft RMS Dynamics as our POS system. Our current computer is old and crashing so we are migrating to a much newer computer.
We DO NOT have the original installation disks that came with the programs when we bought it. We seem to get closer to our goal each time, but we're still facing obstacles - any help is appreciated! Keep in mind that we are migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
Here is what we've done so far:
1. Downloaded the SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi
2. We copied the RMS file folder from the original computer to the new computer
3. Using the autorun file to download the RMS Admin, Manager and POS files
4. Opened RMS Admin and connected to server database that was used on the original computer. (same server, username, password and database - we even tested the database successfully)
5. Created a backup of the current RMS database on the original computer
6. In RMS Admin, created a new database restoring to that same backup but we keep getting this error: "cannot open backup device 'E:\backup090919.bck'. Operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally"
Also after this, we tried opening RMS POS "The current database is of version 2.02, while this application requires version 2.00. Please run Store Operations - Administrator to correct this problem"
Can anybody help us in trying to locate what we are missing or doing wrong?
Thank you!

Hi! I am glad that Mike M on our tech team was able to get you up and running! Please do call or email for additional assistance and/or to look at the various low cost RMS replacement programs that RITE offers (support: 888-267-7483 sales: kevina@rite.us or 208-994-9404).
Hi there! It wouldn't let me run Store Operations Manager - but I was able to run Store Operations Administrator and the version/build is 2.0.0105. I checked both computers and the version/build is the same on administrator.
What update do I need to resolve this?
Run Store Operations Manager on old PC and select Help, About in top menu.
What is the version/build number shown? This version must match what you install on the new PC.
CD files will get you the version 2.0.0105. You need an update to that to resolve the database version error.
To restore the backup you first need to copy the backup file to the new PC or copy it to a USB drive and restore from that drive connected to new PC.
RMS EOL isn't until July 2021.
You are welcomed to contact our RMS/HQ support team in Minnesota (we work with a few retailers already in HI that use RMS). I realize there is a 5 hour time different but support can be reached at 8888-267-7483 from 8:30 until 5:30 central time. Hourly rate and estimated time to help you can be provided by one of our techs before you hand over ant payment information.
We have the original license key - I was able to copy/paste the RMS files from the old computer to the new computer and was able to connect to the database. Our problem now is not being able to restore the POS System with our most recent backup. It gives us a error and then terminates abnormally.
I tried contacting tech support but they don't offer any support for RMS since it's EOL. Do you have any other suggestions?
Hi! A couple of questions: 1) Are you current on your annual software maintenance plan/BRAP with Microsoft? Do you have the original license key card? If you are current on maintenance, then you should be able to download the correct version via CustomerSource. Some important things to note about using RMS POS on Windows 10 can be found here: rite.us/.../UpgradingtoWindows10.aspx. If you are not able to obtain help from your assigned Microsoft Dynamics RMS Partner, then you can contact Microsoft directly for paid support at 888-477-7877. RITE also has 10 RMS support techs and can be reached for paid support at 888-267-7483.
