Basic Inventory Management Production Picking

Imagine you’re a warehouse worker at a facility that doesnt use advanced warehouse management.

Production planners have just released a production order to the shop floor.

How do you, as part of the inventory team, know that the production order has been released?

Additionally, how do you execute the entire process from determining which raw materials to pick and identifying their specific storage locations, to physically picking the materials and recording the inventory movement to ensure accurate inventory tracking?

It’s just strange that the warehouse worker has to go to the production order and essentially look and the BOM and create a picking list journal. I have to be missing something.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Chance,

There are various settings that manages on which moment picking lists are created and potentially automatically consumes the BOM item. Potentially alerts are useful to notify specific persons.
Your question requires full understanding of the process in your organization and a Dynamics 365 SCM consultant that can then recommend the best settings or suggest operational changes to ensure a smooth process.

    Hello,

In a warehouse without advanced warehouse management, as a warehouse worker, you would manually check the released production orders and their BOM to determine which raw materials to pick. You would also identify storage locations manually and record inventory movements in a picking list journal.
In an ideal scenario, the process could be automated with integrated systems that generate picking lists, show material locations, and record inventory movements in real-time. Using automated alerts, barcode scanning, or RFID could streamline the process, reducing manual steps and ensuring accurate inventory tracking. This approach would help eliminate the need for manually creating picking list journals and improve overall efficiency.
