It was my understanding that @FiscalPeriodName in management reporter would display whatever label you assign to a given period in the fiscal period setup card. When we use it, that autotext formula returns the end of that period with the time, so a period ending 8/31/13 would display 8/31/13 11:59... etc etc.
Has anyone experienced this? is my impression just incorrect, or is something wrong with our setup?

Unfortunately, this is a known issue written up as bug # 677925 for the DDM integration with MR 2012.
With MR 2012 CU6 and CU7, the legacy is the work around at this time.
Does this happen on all reports or just one? You are correct in your understanding that the @FiscalPeriodName is supposed to show the name of the period as shown in the GP periods definition.
Are you using a Native connector or a DataMart? Your data mart could be corrupt.
