I have a client with assets that are idle at various times throughout the year. They want to be able to stop depreciation from calculating while the asset is idle. It sounds similar to depreciation by usage. Is this possible in the GP2010 Fixed Assets Module?

Faisal Ikram (FI), so when you are conducting FA class. :P~
Hi:
To achieve above requirement you can temporarily change depreciation method to "No Deprecation", Now there is catch as there are multiple assets from multiple class so it will be a hectic job to select change the method individually. To overcome this problem create a group of assets for these of assets and than using mass update select the group and change the depreciation method.
Thank you.

As far as I know, this is not possible as there is no depreciation method covering such requirement, the only possible work around that I can think of is to manipulate the "depreciated to date" and other associated data (if any) and proceed the depreciation accordingly.
You do need to take into consideration that this method is not just to get few fields updated on the database level, it requires thorough and comprehensive testing to ensure that that the process will proceed as expected.
If you are looking for one time fix, the work around above could get things settled. Otherwise, you do need to consider customized solutions.
