MSDN licence for Dynamics AX 2012 R3

I have downloaded Dynamics AX 2012 R3 from the MSDN portal and I have also downloaded two licence files that say:

  1. en_dynamics_ax_2012_feature_pack_license_file
  2. en_microsoft_dynamics_ax_2012_license_file_x86_x64_11881264

I have never installed or used Dynamics AX before, so I want to know if the licence files on MSDN give me full functionality or are they just demo licences with restricted functions?

I opened up the licence files and they just contain text relating to Contoso which looks like a demo company. I don't want to buy a server and try to install this colossal software if the licence isn't going to give me full functionality.

Anyone know the score?

    Hi volumeone!

The license provided by MSDN for dev and test only, not for production use. I didn't tried to use this kind of license, but i think you'll get full functionality.

    Hi volumeone,

Like Rustem suggested, the license is supposed to be used for learning development and testing. The license gives you access to all features and the development environment. If you want to build ISV solutions, you would need another partner license.

So its not restricted to database size or only certain dates for transactions? The Dynamics NAV license didn't let me do anything much so I had to uninstall it all. Don't want to go through that with AX.

Is AX 2012 R3 the final release? 2012 seems so long ago.

There is no limits for DB size or something else.

The AX2012R3 is the final release of 2012 version. Now it’s Dynamics 365 For Finance and Operations.

I have been told in another thread that Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations in the new AX. But I cannot find an MSDN licence for this. How can I get D365FO on-premise with MSDN?

    Hi Volumeone,

There is no MSDN license for Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. I don't know if it will come in the future or not.

The only way to get your hands on fully functional D365FO dev/demo environment is through customer / partner trial (or purchasing D365FO subscription of course). But you need to be a Dynamics customer or partner to be eligible.

The free 30 day trial has only limited features.
