How to make unit conversion for 3 levels?

Posted on by 30

How to make unit convertion for 3 level,

I have Product1, There are 3 units of that product, They are CAR (Cartoon), OTR (Outer), EA (Each).

1 Cartoon = 4 Outer

1 Outer = 6 Each, So totally 1 Cartoon having 6*4= 24 Each,

My inventory Unit of Measure is EA

I make unit conversion like below.

1 CAR = 4 OTR

1 CAR = 24 EACH

1 OTR = 4 EACH

Is that above one is correct?

Or the below one is correct?

1 CAR = 4 OTR

1 OTR = 4 EACH

I can sell in all the Unit of measures

    Hello Liamneesan,

For this scenario, you will need to at least enter conversion from each unit you use to the Inventory unit for the item. If conversion from the unit you use on an order to item's inventory unit does not exist, system will throw an error. There is no logic currently which allows using CAR on an order without specifying the unit conversion from CAR to EA.

I see an idea was registered 2 years ago in Ideas portal to allow more than 2 levels (Microsoft Idea  · Direct conversions required for all the units in the items (dynamics.com)), but there have not been enough votes for this to justify changing the current behavior.

I hope you can register the 3 unit conversions for your item(s). Please note that we do allow importing this data through a data entity and through Excel as mentioned here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/pim/uom-conversion-per-product-variant#using-excel-to-update-the-unit-conversions. This allows importing the required unit conversion for larger set of items.

I hope this helps you set up the required unit conversions.

    Regards,

    Arnold van Wageningen

    Hi Ramune Peckyte,

"is this question related to retail/commerce scenarios or just to standard supply chain management?"

it's related to Retail and Commerce, to check how many quantity available as a Cartoon or Outer or Piece after we do sales or transfer to another retail channel
