Pallet splitting in WMS

Hi,

We have been doing palatalization using WMS in Outbound processing and we make mixed pallets on a target license plate at the outbound location.

But we have a business requirement to split a pallet (number of splits can vary) e.g. a pallet had 5 serialized items and we would like to split the pallet into 3 and 2 with serialized items.(Can have non-serialized items on the pallet too).

E.g. Target license plate: XXX0022 - has 5 qty. Want to be able to split license plate and transfer 2 qty to a new license plate - XXX0023.

Please share you inputs on how this can be achieved.

Thanks in advance for your valuable inputs.

    RE: Pallet splitting in WMS

    Hi Maharaja,

Is there any business logic that defines/should trigger the split, e.g. carrier service, mode of delivery, shipment, etc.? And what is the moment that this split needs to occur, can this be decided during the picking flow based on quantity or should it follow specific business logic as mentioned earlier?

    Thanks,

    Alice

    RE: Pallet splitting in WMS

    Hi Alice,

The requirement is to split a target pallet after its paletizied for outbound before shipping it.

This is required after the sales picking process.

    This is one scenario.

But generally I would like to also understand how pallet spilling can be achieved in WMS. Can we split a pallet to have a Parent child relation.

E.g. build a pallet of 10 qty and split into 3-4 pallets later.

    Can this be achieved?

    Please share your thoughts.

    Thanks

I am not aware of a way to split a picked LP. The problem here is that the LP is already connected to a sales order transaction and the system will not allow container nesting or manual qty move.

You can try using the packing process where you can manually specify LPs per each packed container.

If you are looking for something more advanced/automatic, I would suggest exploring Sorting functionality.

    RE: Pallet splitting in WMS

    Hi Maharaja,

So if I understand your flow correctly you are first picking everything via the sales order picking flow to a TLP. After this, the associated items will be put to another pallet X, Y, Z etc. I'm still curious where this split is based on, but let's park that for now .

Dependent on your flow and dependent on which version you are using, you might want to have a look at the below options.

    Manual packing functionality [https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/dynamics365/no-audience/2016/12/01/improved-packing-functionality-dynamics-365-for-operations-1611/]

If applicable to your flow, this enables you to validate and pack products into containers [e.g. box, pallet etc.]. During this process, the warehouse workers pick products from the storage locations and move them to the packing station where they check the item quantities types and assign them to appropriate containers. When a container is fully packed, the user can close the container and move it to the outbound docks.

As part of the packing form, you have the possibility to define a container group LP as well. This can be used if the container will be packed on a pallet. In this end, this will ensure that the pallet can be moved out instead of the individual containers. This group LP will allow you in some way to get a kind of parent-child relationship.

    Outbound sorting [https://blog.bhsolutions.com/d365-wave-2-sorting-and-pallet-building]

The outbound sorting functionality allows you to sort packed containers to a correct pallet after the packing station to build a packing hierarchy.

    Put to wall/store [https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2019wave2/dynamics365-supply-chain-management/put-wallput-store

This workflow directs picked products to a sorting location for distribution into various types of containers/pallets.

    Any questions, let me know.

    Thanks,

    Alice
