Rebuilding CRM 4.0

Posted on by 45

Our CRM 4.0 server was trashed by Ransomware.  Our database is on a separate SQL server which is fine now.  I want to build a new VM for CRM 4.0 and connect it to our old database for a data migration.  What is the best way to reinstall CRM 4.0 and tell it to use the existing CRM database?

Right, but the server is blank and the org has no values in the list.  There is no way to type into the either of the fields.

When you click import organization in the deployment manager, 2 fields should be displayed: one for the sql server and the other for the organization name.

Really where?  I go into Deployment Manager and hit import organization and see no server name, no way to actually enter a server name and no other orgs in the list below.  Does it matter what version of CRM 4.0 you are running

    Hello,

You can manually enter the SQL server name to import your organization. Make sure of the sql instance (default instance or named instance: <sqlserver>\<sqlinstancename>).

Then, you can continue with the import.

    Hope this helps!

Ive done all the steps up to the deployment manager.  It doesn't see ANY sql server anywhere when I try to import the organization.

    Hi

    Backup your old CRM DB

Install the CRM 4.0 on your new VM, point it to the same SQL Server, you may have to delete or rename the existing Config DB and CRM DB on the the SQL Server. Once you installed CRM on new VM pointing to old SQL, you can use the deployment manager to import the Organisation from the backup,.
