Locking/Unlocking Stages on Business Process Flow

Dear all,

I have a situation where I need to lock the subsequent stages until certain fields of the current Business Process Flow stage are filled and saved. The scenario is in case management where "Identify" stage required fields must be filled first before "Research" stage can be unlocked and so on. I want to force the user to fill in those fields before next stages can be unlocked...and I stress on "unlocked". Are there clear instructions to achieve that objective? Thanks

If you set the fields as required, they won't be able to move forward in the process.

However, if you mean they can't even navigate to those steps, the only native way to "unlock" different process steps is if they're on different entities.  Such as Lead to Opportunity qualification.  So you could make new entities to handle locking down each business process, but that seems like a bad idea, and not very configurable.

My situation is a bit different because "Customer Services" must identify a case first before the stage of approving a case and assigning it to a different department can be unlocked. I know about the required fields from BPF but that does not lock the subsequent stages
